Provides knowledge and skills necessary to understand the United States health care system and major legislation established to support the health care needs of people with disabilities. Analyses disability related legislation, policies, and politics that influence practice in social work and allied health professions, with a particular focus on disparities in health and health care access. Provides knowledge and skills necessary to understand how major services and programs in the disability and health sector are organized, resourced and delivered, and emphasizes the need for collaboration and networking between the disability and health systems. Additionally, the course provides tools for advocating for change and reform to enhance health and well-being of people with disabilities.
