Teaching Practicum I in Elementary Education

Description

2 hours; 3 credits. 2 hour weekly seminar and a minimum of 12 weeks (360 clinical hours). Students complete a minimum of 60 days (12 weeks) in a mentored teaching experience in an elementary school setting in grades 1-6. Students currently employed as teachers or serving as teacher residents work with a faculty member, a supervising teacher, and the school principal or designee to enhance learning for individual and groups of children of varying abilities. Students meet once a week for two hours in a seminar to reflect upon the educational philosophies they have studied and the methodologies they are currently implementing in their own classrooms as they develop their own approaches to teaching and learning. The teacher's role in developing environments that are safe and nurturing as well as intellectually stimulating and challenging for all students is examined. Graded P/F
