Reflection and Analysis in Student Teaching II (in Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms)

This seminar is designed to introduce students to the nature of teaching and teachers’ work with diverse groups of young children and to support students’ learning during their participation in an early childhood student teaching experience. It is a requirement for teacher certification. Students will have the opportunity to observe different educational settings for children in PreK school and Kindergarten. The field component (practicum site) is intended to integrate theory with professional practice in the areas of family and team collaboration, observation and reflection, assessment, planning and implementing group and individualized instruction, classroom management, and other professional skills. Students will work regularly with their cooperating teachers at their practicum sites as well as with their university supervisors to expand their experience and skills, and meet course requirements and standards, as well as individual professional goals. Students will also be able to share perspectives and experiences in a constructive and supportive environment. Students will engage in a process of critical reflective analysis throughout the course, examining the role of the teacher in and the impact of the environment on young children’s learning. By the end of the semester, students will develop their own perspectives on the nature of teaching and learning which will influence their professional growth and development as teachers.
